Question: I recently tried RenewTrient capsules and they helped my sleep considerably. However, I woke up much earlier than usual. Normally, I take melatonin when I sleep. The timed-release melatonin does a good job of keeping me asleep. Can I take melatonin with RenewTrient? ——KD

Answer: Certainly. I have used melatonin with butyrolactone (the active agent in RenewTrient) on many occasions and think it works well. I have also combined melatonin with GHB, 1,4-butanediol (GHB-OH), tryptophan and 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP), and they all synergize well together.

If you continue to wake up early, that is probably the result of increased dopamine. Compounds that metabolize into GHB suppress dopamine for a period of hours, which rebounds when the compound wears off. If the dopamine rebound effect is troublesome, you’ll have to decide if the sleep enhancement is worth the price. See the last issue’s Q&A for more discussion on the topic. ——SWF
